A summary of selected City Hall actions last week that affect the Westside. : CITY COUNCIL

MULHOLLAND CLOSURE--Approved a request by the Santa Monica Conservancy to close a six-mile unimproved stretch of Mulholland Drive during the evening to prevent criminal activity, such as illegal dumping and car stripping. Also, the dirt road, from Encino Hills Drive to Santa Maria Road, will be closed when the National Weather Service predicts an 80% chance of half an inch of rainfall in 12 hours in the city, and during the fire seasons when the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Brush Burning Index reaches 81 or more.

* VENICE HOUSING PROJECT--Approved the sale of three city-owned lots at 345 4th Ave. in Venice to the Fourth Avenue Limited Partnership for $10, clearing the way for the development of a 25-unit low-income housing project. In addition, the City Council authorized the city controller to issue a $703,000 loan to Venice Community Housing Corp., a nonprofit organization that will lend the money to the Fourth Avenue Limited Partnership. This was done because, under new Community Development Block Grant regulations, the Los Angeles Housing Department can lend money only to nonprofit groups. Construction of the complex, which includes two one-bedroom units, 13 two-bedroom units, seven three-bedroom units and two four-bedroom units, is expected to begin this summer. Some Venice residents complained that the area did not need another densely populated complex, but backers insisted that there is a strong need for more affordable housing.

* VENICE’S 90TH ANNIVERSARY--Approved the closure from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. of Market Street between Pacific Avenue and Speedway on July 8, and Windward Avenue between Pacific Avenue and Ocean Front Walk on July 8 and 9 for the celebration of the 90th anniversary of Venice.
