Lawyer Brings Shoes to Inmate, but Deputies Find Pot in Them
An attorney Monday attempted to smuggle marijuana in a pair of tennis shoes to his client at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
About 10 a.m., attorney Albert Batista of Rolling Hills Estates brought the shoes to the inmate reception center at the jail, Deputy Jeff Cannon said.
“Deputy John Meehan, following standard procedures, searched the tennis shoes and discovered marijuana hidden below both of the insteps, along with a supply of Zig Zag cigarette wrappers,” Cannon said.
Deputies arrested Batista on suspicion of bringing a controlled substance into a jail, which is a felony, he said, adding that the lawyer was released on $25,000 bond.
