The Southeastern Conference officiating crew that worked Arkansas’ 20-19 victory over Alabama on Saturday has been suspended for failing to penalize Arkansas for having 12 men on the field during the winning drive, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Thursday. At conference headquarters in Birmingham, Ala., an SEC spokesman declined to confirm or deny the report. Alabama Coach Gene Stallings was upset about the no-call after the game, but he told the Birmingham Post-Herald he didn’t file an official complaint and didn’t know anything about the suspension.

Nebraska receiver Riley Washington, who is charged with attempted murder, will play in Saturday’s game against Pacific, Coach Tom Osborne said. Osborne said he believes Washington is innocent of charges that he shot and wounded a man outside a Lincoln convenience store Aug. 2.

The NCAA has reversed itself and allowed Utah fullback Rob Hamilton another year of eligibility. The dispute was over whether Hamilton was a full-time or part-time student at San Diego State in his freshman year. The NCAA’s action came on Utah’s fourth appeal--the last one allowed.
