Savings From Station’s Budget Pays for Extra Holiday Patrols

Los Angeles police at the Pacific Station will be beefing up holiday patrols with $100,000 saved out of their own overtime budget, thanks to a citizen-based advisory board.

“We were able to save a lot of the money by reducing our end-of-shift overtime costs and cutting down on court overtime,” said Capt. David Doan of the Pacific Station.

The overtime-saving recommendations came from the nearly 2-year-old Pacific Area Community Police Advisory Board, Doan said.

“They help us identify savings and give us feedback on where they see a need for services. And we decided that we’d put the savings back into patrols targeting trends we’ve identified around the holiday season,” Doan said.

He said extra officers will be on foot patrols on Lincoln Boulevard, the main thoroughfare through the patrol area that includes Venice, Westchester, the airport area and parts of West Los Angeles.
