South Bay : Luxury Hotel Planned on the Strand
Hermosa Beach may soon have a luxury hotel on the Strand, the first since the old Biltmore Hotel closed its doors in 1969.
Construction on the three-story Beach House, located at 13th Street and the Strand, is expected to begin this fall. The 97-unit resort is scheduled to open in spring 1997 and rooms will be available for $110 to $180 per night, said Mayor John Bowler.
Bowler said the private development will be a welcome addition to a city that is in the midst of a business revitalization.
“I can count the number of beachfront hotels in Los Angeles on one hand,” Bowler said. “There is definitely a market for this kind of hotel in Hermosa Beach.”
The resort will feature convention space and time-share options, Bowler said.
