Talk about rude guests.

The Vancouver Canucks’ Cliff Ronning came into Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena Saturday night and wreaked havoc. With two flicks of his stick, Ronning beat his hosts, smashed some streaks and ruined a potentially momentous occasion.

Ronning scored two goals in a 2:55 span late in the third period to enable the Canucks to beat Detroit, 3-2.

The Red Wings had won 12 in a row at home, six straight overall and were looking for their club record-tying 47th win of the season. It was only the third time Detroit has lost at home all year.

It was the fifth hat trick of Sanderson’s career. Panther goalie John Vanbiesbrouck yielded all seven goals on 27 shots. . . . Jim Carey continued to stump his hometown team, stopping 28 shots at Boston for his fifth shutout to lead the Washington Capitals past the Boston Bruins, 2-0.
