Outlook: The Spartans have won the Century League championship the past two seasons. Now they are hoping to go after a bigger challenge, namely qualifying for the section team championship by making the top three at the Southern Regional. Salio believes this team, with five returning players, might have what it takes. “They’re more focused on their game,” Salio said. “They all worked really hard. That’s the nice thing about this group--they’re all really motivated.” The extra work has been paying off. Four of the players--Michel, Hambarian, Cohn and Redwine--won local junior tournaments last summer. Last season, Michel was a first-team all-league pick and the other three were second-team selections. “They’re all within a stroke of each other, so it’s hard to pick the order,” Salio said.
