Thousand Oaks Passes San Marcos on the Fly

Jennifer Richards’ fly ball to left field scored two runners and gave Thousand Oaks High a 2-0 softball victory over San Marcos in a Southern Section Division I first-round playoff game Friday at San Marcos.

Thousand Oaks (20-8), the Marmonte League’s No. 3 team, advances to play Gahr on Tuesday. Channel League champion San Marcos finishes 20-6.

Richards’ sacrifice fly to left field came in the sixth inning with the bases loaded. San Marcos left fielder Therese Clementi made the catch and threw home but the ball bounced away from Royal catcher Stefanie Christoferson, allowing Erika Hanson to score from third and Justine Rachlin from second.

Thousand Oaks’ Jennifer Sharron (19-7) pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and two walks. Jenny Hehnke (20-5) of San Marcos tossed a four-hitter with two strikeouts and a walk.

Buena 6, Downey 5--Renae Hofan’s two-run home run in the seventh gave the Bulldogs (19-8) a 6-4 lead at Downey. Buena advances to play Foothill on Tuesday.

Camarillo 3, Los Altos 0--Melanie Richardson (10-1) threw a one-hitter, striking out eight and walking five, for the Scorpions (22-1) at Camarillo.

Robin Degner squeezed home Jessica Mendoza in the second inning and Tommee Payan singled in Allison Taberner from second in the fourth. The other Camarillo run was unearned. The Scorpions advance to play neighboring Rio Mesa on Tuesday.

Rio Mesa 5, Warren 1--Marcella Ramirez (15-5) pitched a three-hitter and struck out five for the Spartans (19-6) at Rio Mesa.

Jessica Brown had two hits and Rhianna Rogers had two runs batted in for Rio Mesa, which will play Camarillo on Tuesday.

Charter Oak 3, Simi Valley 2--Lori Tande (10-10) pitched a five-hitter for the Pioneers (15-13) but gave up the deciding run on a fifth-inning solo home run by Lisa Iancin at Charter Oak (20-7-1).

DIVISION II

Hart 2, Bellflower 0--Christina Chao hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning and Courtney Sherlock scored on an error for the Indians (21-7) at Bellflower (12-11).

Mary Colleran (19-7) threw a one-hitter, striking out three and walking one for Hart, which will play Righetti on Tuesday.

Crescenta Valley 7, Sunny Hills 0--Danielle Ferreira (21-6) pitched her 10th one-hitter and 15th shutout for the Falcons (21-6), striking out eight for Crescenta Valley.

The Falcons advance to play Peninsula on Tuesday.

Righetti 1, Hoover 0--Tina Kinney pitched a two-hitter but the Tornadoes (17-10) lost at Righetti (23-6) as Warrior pinch-runner Allisa Cortez scored on a passed ball in the seventh.

Saugus 8, Arroyo Grande 0--Jamie Gillies (20-3) gave up one hit in six innings as the Centurions (23-4) blanked the Eagles (10-16) at Saugus.

Gillies struck out seven and walked none. Jenny Ridnor had three hits and Nicole Giordano and Chris Gill each had two hits and an RBI for Saugus, which advances to play La Habra on Tuesday.

Bishop Amat 2, Burroughs 0--Jennifer Tyler (12-8) struck out two and walked one, pitching a four-hitter in a losing effort for the Indians (15-9) at Bishop Amat.

DIVISION III

Alemany 4, Highland 3--Elena Lira scored the winning run from third on a wild pitch as the Indians (20-4) won with two out in the bottom of the seventh at Alemany.

Alemany advances to play Redondo on Tuesday.

Louisville 4, Ridgecrest Burroughs 0--Becky Witt and Liz Hudson each had three hits for the Royals (13-9), and Stefanie Urman (13-8) pitched a three-hitter for the Louisville, which faces Arlington on Tuesday.

St. Lucy’s 2, Quartz Hill 0--The Rebels (16-10) were shut out in a loss at St. Lucy’s (22-4). Jodie Cox (11-10) pitched a five-hitter for Quartz Hill.

Chaminade 4, El Segundo 1--Maureen LeCocq (10-7) pitched a six-hitter, striking out five and walking none as the Eagles (15-13) won at El Segundo. LeCocq also hit a two-run triple in the fifth inning.

Chaminade will play California on Tuesday.

DIVISION V

Calabasas 10, La Salle 0--Kelli Sargent (10-2) pitched a two-hitter for the Coyotes (14-5-1) at La Salle. Sargent had three hits, including a double, and an RBI, and teammate Jesse Armacost had two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs.

Paraclete 11, Notre Dame Academy 0--Vicki McKay (17-2) pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts, and Cassie Burke had three hits and two RBIs for the Spirits (22-4) at Paraclete.

Oak Park 7, Whitney 1--A six-run first inning led the Eagles (15-11) to a rout at Oak Park.

Kaylene Boldroff (10-7) pitched a two-hitter and struck out eight. Boldroff also had a two-run single.

Chadwick 3, Montclair Prep 2--The Mounties (21-5) were upset at Montclair Prep when Chadwick scored the winning run on a Mountie error in the seventh inning.

Pasadena Poly 4, Fillmore 1--Nicole Ortiz (11-4) threw a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts and two walks, but the Flashes (18-6) allowed four unearned runs in the sixth at Pasadena Poly.

Moorpark 6, Immaculate Heart 2--Erin Heinbechner (14-4) pitched a two-hitter, striking out 11 and walking none for the Musketeers (16-8) at Moorpark.

Crossroads 1, La Reina 0--The Roadrunners won at Crossroads in the ninth inning when Erica Koivula singled with the bases loaded. Koivula pitched a no-hitter and struck out 10.

Jennifer Baltruzak (12-7) pitched a five-hitter for the Regents (17-10).

St. Genevieve 2, Mission Prep 0--Stacy Champy (8-8) pitched a no-hitter for the Valiants at Mission Prep, striking out 11 and walking three. She also singled in St. Genevieve’s two runs in the first inning.
