City Manager, Council Get 5% Pay Raises
The Simi Valley City Council voted itself a pay raise Monday after boosting City Manager Mike Sedell’s salary to $115,668 a year.
The council voted 5 to 0 to raise Sedell’s current $110,160 annual salary by 5%.
“I think we all would have to say that Mike’s done an outstanding job in moving from one position to another,” said Councilman Bill Davis, referring to Sedell’s former post as assistant city manager. “I think we got an absolute bargain, and we do appreciate, Mike, all the effort you’ve put out.”
After raising Sedell’s salary, the council voted to increase the $739.20 monthly pay for each of its members by 5% to $776.16 a month.
The council members also raised their $252 monthly expense allowance to $265. The raise pushed expense stipends for Mayor Greg Stratton from $313.60 up to $330. Stratton earns a slightly higher stipend because he has more official duties requiring him to travel than do his fellow council members.
The raises will not take effect until after the November election.
