Nutt Succeeds Allen at Boise State

Houston Nutt, coach at Murray State for four years, was hired as coach at Boise State to replace Pokey Allen, who resigned this month after renewed growth of cancer in his lungs was discovered. UCLA offensive coordinator Al Borges was one of the finalists. . . . Dennis Franchione removed his name from consideration for the Kansas coaching job, saying it was in his family’s best interests that he remain at New Mexico. Northern Iowa Coach Terry Allen reportedly is the front-runner for the job. . . . The University of Georgia will wait until a January meeting with the NCAA enforcement staff before deciding whether to sanction itself for violating four rules. Georgia, which admitted to the violations Friday, denied six other allegations in releasing its response to the NCAA Infractions Committee.
