2 Feared Dead in Military Plane Crash

A two-seat military training plane crashed Wednesday night in a mountainous area of the Cleveland National Forest, about nine miles from the El Toro Marine base, authorities said.

There was no immediate report of injuries, but both people on board were feared dead.

About 8:20 p.m., the military air base tower radioed the Orange County Fire Department that the small, propeller-driven Beech T-34 aircraft was going down and requested rescue help, Lt. Richard Paddock of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said. Because roads in the remote canyon area are unpaved, it took rescue crews almost an hour to reach the crash site near Maple Springs Road, Paddock said.
