Acosta Registers Another Shutout
Freshman goalie Cheryl Acosta made four saves and the Notre Dame High girls’ soccer team defeated Crescenta Valley, 2-0, Tuesday in a semifinal game of the Simi Valley tournament at Simi Valley High.
The shutout was the Knights’ fifth in a row and Acosta’s fourth in the tournament.
Sarah Morgan and Rebecca Rebbe scored for the Knights (8-0-2), who will play Westlake in the championship game today at 11 a.m.
Acosta had two saves in a 3-0 quarterfinal victory over St. Bonaventure earlier in the day.
In other tournament games:
Westlake 1, Buena 0--Naomi Chu scored for the Warriors (7-1-1) in the 52nd minute off a corner kick by Jenna Wirtz in a semifinal game.
Westlake goalkeepers Katie Peck and Claire Conner each made one save.
In a quarterfinal game, Westlake defeated Camarillo, 1-0, on a goal by Wirtz in the 45th minute.
Buena beat South Torrance on penalty kicks, 4-3, in the quarterfinals earlier in the day.
Chatsworth 2, Granada Hills 0--Jackie Fodor scored in the first half and Leila Pate scored in the second half of a consolation semifinal game.
Chatsworth improved to 5-1-1.
St. Bonaventure 1, Simi Valley 0--Erin Croasmun scored in the first half in a fifth-place semifinal. Nicki Ridout made 11 saves for her seventh shutout.
St. Bonaventure is 8-1.
Burbank 5, St. Genevieve 0--Goalie Elia Ortiz made four saves in her first varsity start for Burbank (5-3) in a nonleague game.
BOYS
Santa Ana 4, Simi Valley 2--The Pioneers (7-2) gave up the four goals in the second half of a South Torrance tournament semifinal game.
Earlier, the Pioneers defeated Long Beach Jordan, 3-2, in a quarterfinal game.
Burroughs 2, Agoura 1--Miguel Meneses scored twice in the first half in a consolation game of the Royal tournament. Burroughs improved to 6-1-4.
Rio Mesa 5, Palmdale 1--The Spartans (7-2-1) got three goals from Bryan Monka in a consolation game of the Royal tournament.
