Happy Birthday, Hawthorne.

The South Bay city has changed from a small cow town to bustling city of 78,000, and officials plan to mark that growth and 75 years of cityhood with a big celebration.

The city has planned a carnival that will run today through Sunday at Hawthorne High School. A parade has been scheduled Saturday at 11 a.m. that begins at Hawthorne Boulevard then heads west on El Segundo Boulevard.

A pool party and barbecue will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Hawthorne Municipal Pool, 12501 Inglewood Ave.
