Festivities to Mark 75 Years of Cityhood
Happy Birthday, Hawthorne.
The South Bay city has changed from a small cow town to bustling city of 78,000, and officials plan to mark that growth and 75 years of cityhood with a big celebration.
The city has planned a carnival that will run today through Sunday at Hawthorne High School. A parade has been scheduled Saturday at 11 a.m. that begins at Hawthorne Boulevard then heads west on El Segundo Boulevard.
A pool party and barbecue will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Hawthorne Municipal Pool, 12501 Inglewood Ave.
The weekend celebration will conclude with a fireworks show at Hawthorne High School on Sunday at 9 p.m.
