Landlord Pleads Not Guilty in Threat Case

Share

A landlord of a rent-controlled Santa Monica apartment building pleaded not guilty Friday to charges that he threatened to kill his tenants.

In Santa Monica Municipal Court, attorneys for Stanislaw Slanda, 63, unsuccessfully argued that bail set at $75,000 is excessive for a misdemeanor case.

Slanda has been held since Nov. 2 on 37 counts of threatening, stalking and disturbing his tenants and neighbors. Judge Richard Neidorf denied the request for reduced bail, saying Slanda “looks like he’s very disturbed.”

Slanda rose to ask the judge to dismiss the charges, saying that recent newspaper articles will prejudice a jury. Neidorf also denied that request.
