Council Approves Forming City’s First Historic District

Share

After years of work, residents of a historic neighborhood were rewarded this week when the City Council voted to form the Anaheim Colony Historic District.

The honorary designation affects the area bounded by North, South, East and West streets.

The area has 1,100 structures of historical significance, many of them built in the 1920s, according to a committee that worked with the city staff. Fifty-eight of them are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

More than 20 residents attended the meeting in support of the city’s first historic district, which they say will keep the integrity of the aged neighborhoods intact.

Voluntary guidelines will be developed to assist homeowners who want to restore their homes to the original condition, which residents hope will encourage neighborhood preservation.
