Knocking off the second-ranked team in the nation will be no small task for Mission Viejo, which, like the Monarchs, has played a soft schedule. The Diablos’ six victories have come against teams that have a combined record of 13-22. Mater Dei’s opponents have a combined mark of 12-21-2. Mission Viejo has averaged 31 points per game. Mater Dei has surrendered only one touchdown--to Bellflower St. John Bosco in the third quarter of a 40-7 victory Sept. 18. It hadn’t been scored on again until Capistrano Valley managed a second-quarter field goal last week in a 28-3 Monarch victory.
