Man Killed in Shootout Identified
Authorities released Sunday the identity of the 31-year-old Acton kidnapper who died after a shootout with sheriff’s deputies.
Mark Kulok was found dead Saturday morning in the brushy hillside in Acton, said Sgt. Richard Longshore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
An autopsy scheduled early this week will determine if Kulok killed himself or was fatally wounded by deputies, Longshore said.
On Saturday at 3:30 a.m. deputies responded to a burglary call at the home of Kulok’s ex-girlfriend, a 33-year-old Agua Dulce woman, and discovered she had been abducted.
About 8 a.m., Kulok and the woman arrived at his Acton home, where deputies were waiting nearby. After a brief chase, Kulok pulled his 1973 Chevrolet truck off Buffalo Ridge Road. Gunfire was exchanged, resulting in minor injuries to a deputy wearing a bulletproof vest.
Deputies rescued the woman after Kulok ran into the brush.
Neither the name of the kidnapping victim nor the injured deputy, who is recovering at home, has been released.
