Hallstrom Is Named Teacher of the Year
A.G. Currie Middle School teacher Darin Hallstrom has been chosen the 1998-99 Teacher of the Year in the Tustin Unified School District.
Hallstrom, who teaches sixth grade, will represent the district at the 1999 Orange County Teacher of the Year program.
At Currie for seven years, he has taught language arts, reading and social studies and is chairman of the Social Science department.
“I believe that teaching must be approached as an art, not a science,” Hallstrom said. “It should derive from creativity and enthusiasm as opposed to formula and recipe.”
Hallstrom and the district’s other award winners will be honored at a breakfast Monday.
Hallstrom will receive a $3,500 grant from the Irvine Company, which is awarding about $55,000 to Tustin teachers to augment classroom activities and field trips.
