Dana Hills Rolls Past University

Erin Hutchison scored 14 points to lead Dana Hills to a 42-37 victory over University in the final of the La Quinta girls’ basketball tournament Friday.

The Dolphins (9-1) had a strong first half, holding University to 14 points to win their second tournament of the year.

Fala Suiaunoa scored 20 points to lead University (5-4). Dana Hills’ Nicole Howard was named tournament MVP and teammate Jessica Hardy made the all-tournament team. Suiahoa also made the all-tournament team.

In another La Quinta Tournament game:

Santiago 59, Norwalk Glenn 56--Sega Asiata scored 18 points and Kelly Chavez scored 13 to lead Santiago (7-3), which took an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter.

In the Artesia tournament, first round:

Cavalry Chapel 59, Paramount 9--Kelly Overby and Lindsey Richelli each scored 14 points for Calvary Chapel and Michelle Pitts contributed with eight assists.

Loara 52, Villa Park 48--Carrie Banister had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and teammate Sandra Sanchez had 15 to give Loara a first-round victory. Laura Dawson (17 points) and Lauren Yadon (11 points) led Villa Park in scoring.

Marina 77, Buena Park 28--Nikki Lee scored 12 points and Leanne Lambert had 11 and seven assists for Marina (7-0), which plays Fontana in the second round today at 1:45 p.m. at Artesia.

Santa Fe Springs St. Paul 50, Garden Grove 41--The Argonauts made two consecutive baskets to come within three points, but then Garden Grove gave up a couple fouls to allow St. Paul to keep the lead.

Dina Reynoso scored a game-high 22 points to lead St. Paul, and Dominique Hernandez added 13 points.

Gloria Rojas led Garden Grove (2-5) with 18 points and five steals. Teammate Jill Nakagawa added 11 points, and Erin Deane grabbed 10 rebounds and scored five points.

Garden Grove will play the loser of Artesia vs. Downey Warren, Monday at 6 p.m., and St. Paul will play the winner today at 6 p.m.

In the Jim Hill Memorial Tournament:

Foothill 39, Corona del Mar 28--Chavaughn Brown scored a team-high 11 points to lead Foothill (8-0).

Char Quon scored 18 points for visiting Corona del Mar (4-5).

Foothill will play Woodbridge in the championship game tonight at 7:30 at Mission Viejo High.
