A sobriety checkpoint on Ventura Road in Oxnard resulted in two drunken-driving arrests Friday night, including a driver whose blood-alcohol level measured four times the legal limit.

The other drunken-driving suspect had been sought by police on a felony warrant for other drunken-driving and drug violations, said Officer Ken Klopman from the Oxnard Police Department.

The drivers’ names were not released.

The checkpoint was conducted from 7 p.m. to midnight on the northbound lanes between 7th and 9th streets. Officers from the Oxnard and Port Hueneme police departments stopped 773 vehicles and administered five field sobriety tests, Klopman said.

Nine citations for license violations and 14 citations for other vehicle code violations were issued.

Police say drunken-driving crashes in Oxnard and Port Hueneme have decreased 25% since the checkpoints were instituted in 1995.
