Police Department Packs Up and Moves
Roll call will soon be at another address.
After years of planning, the 120-member Police Department will settle into its new $13-million station this weekend.
Moving began promptly at 8 a.m. Thursday and will continue through Sunday, according to Sgt. Bob Gardner.
“There are boxes everywhere,” Gardner said of the old Cochran Street station.
Officers did the packing, but professional movers are trucking the department’s belongings to the new 55,000-square-foot station at Alamo Street and Tapo Canyon Road in the city’s civic center.
Police are planning to run a duplicate communication system to ensure the transfer is as seamless as possible, said Lt. Neal Rein.
“There is going to be absolutely no difference,” Rein said.
At most, a few business lines might be out for a short time, officials said.
