Karros Takes a Personal Night

Share

First baseman Eric Karros did not participate in any pregame drills for Friday’s game against the Chicago Cubs because of personal reasons, according to Manager Davey Johnson.

Todd Hollandsworth started at first base in place of Karros, who was available to pinch hit.

Karros, who has played in 122 of the Dodgers’ 128 games, has hit .500 with runners in scoring position over his last 21 games and leads the team with 27 home runs and 87 runs batted in.

Rookie Robinson Checo, who has pitched 8 2/3 innings this year, may return before the season ends after being sidelined because of complications from a groin injury.

Checo, who is 1-0 in three appearances this season, has been pitching in the bullpen and Johnson is hoping for him to return soon.

“I think we’ll see him play before the year is over with,” Johnson said. “It depends on how he comes from out of [pitching in the bullpen]. He may need another time on the side or maybe go out and pitch a little bit.”

Fans who attend today’s game will have a chance to purchase a game-worn jersey of Dodger players in a silent and live auction. The silent auction will begin at 11:25 a.m. on the Club Level at Dodger Stadium with bidding to close at the top of the seventh inning. The live auction will start after the game and feature a limited number of player jerseys that were not available during the silent auction. All proceeds from both auctions will benefit the Dodgers Dream Foundation, which provides educational, athletic and recreational opportunities for local youth.
