Santa Ana police officers on Wednesday arrested three men on suspicion of killing a homeless man.

Bernard Chapelle, 32, who police believe was a transient, was found strangled to death in a dirt parking lot in Oceanside on Nov. 11. Officers there traced the suspects to Santa Ana, where they all live, Santa Ana Sgt. Raul Luna said.

Oscar Ramirez, 30, Eugene Kevin Gomez, 29, and Sherile Rochelle Chancellor, 51, were arrested two days after the Santa Ana Police Department was notified, Luna said.

“Investigators were working on it 30 hours straight,” Luna said, adding that police believed Chapelle was killed at the house of one suspect.

Ramirez and Chancellor were each held in lieu of $250,000 bail at the Santa Ana Jail. No bail was set for Gomez, who allegedly was violating his parole.
