** Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, “This Beautiful Life,” Coolsville/Interscope.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy got a head start on the neo-swing craze with a cameo in the ’96 cult film “Swingers.” Few surprises have emerged from the band since, though the music is well-executed and infinitely danceable. There is some predictable, Krupa-esque drumming, and little attempt to push the genre in any new directions. The band has at least mastered the crime-jazz tradition of Henry Mancini. But for all that energy behind the horns, it’s no substitute for the real thing. Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent). The albums are already released unless otherwise noted.
