Bonny to Be an Assistant at Troy Next Season
Former Marina High girls’ basketball Coach Pete Bonny will be an assistant at Troy next season while teaching at Orangeview Junior High in Anaheim.
“Being a high school assistant is great for me because it allows me to continue to build a top physical education program at Orangeview, as well as coach volleyball and basketball there,” Bonny said.
Bonny had a 223-58 record in 10 seasons at Marina, winning six Sunset League titles and the 1998 Southern Section Division I-A championship, but was fired before the 1999-00 season by Principal Carol Osbrink.
“It’s a waste of talent for him not to be coaching somewhere,” said Troy Coach Kevin Kiernan, who has four starters returning from last season’s Division I-A finalist. “He’s too organized, too good, to stay out.
“A guy like Pete would make me a better coach and us better players.”
