The Portland Art Museum in Oregon on Saturday will open a Center for Native American Art and a Center for Northwest Art, part of a $45-million, two-year renovation that has added a wing with more than 60,000 square feet.

The Native American collection, said to be unique in the Pacific Northwest, includes about 375 artifacts and works of art drawn from throughout North America. They include textiles, baskets, masks and carvings from the pre-Columbian era to the present. The Center for Northwest Art features works from artists who lived in or visited the Pacific Northwest states, Alaska and British Columbia starting in the 19th century.

Museum admission fees, normally $7.50 for adults, $4 ages 5 to 18 and free under age 5, will be waived through Sept. 17. The museum is closed Mondays. Tel. (503) 226-2811.
