The rent for City Hall will increase by $1,200 per month in November and will escalate each year, according to a new lease agreement.
The five-year deal, approved last week by the City Council, will increase the monthly rent to more than $20,000 beginning in November. By November 2004, the monthly rent will be more than $27,000, or more than $300,000 annually.
According to a staff report by City Manager Tim Casey, the renewed agreement with Birtcher Niguel is “very favorable” compared with other recent rental agreements in the Birtcher Business Center and south Orange County.
But Councilwoman Linda Lindholm would like the city to eventually have its own building.
“I am very interested in pursuing the design and construction of our own City Hall if the cost is reasonable,” Lindholm said.
