The Planning Commission has decided to change the sign regulations for the Balboa Peninsula by allowing public hearings for proposed sign changes.

The city already encourages peninsula store owners to get creative with their signs. The new decision, made Thursday by the commission, includes city funding for the removal and disposal of old signs. The city would also help with the graphic design for new ones, pay for construction of new signs and waive all fees for sign permits.

The incentives would decrease in the following years.
