Help Sought on City’s Comprehensive Plan

Share

City residents interested in helping to update the city’s comprehensive plan are encouraged to apply for spots on an advisory committee before the Jan. 15 deadline.

“We are hoping to receive a wide range of applicants from various community groups,” senior city planner Stacey Kuennen said.

The group is seeking applications from members of a variety of groups, including those concerned with business, the environment, senior citizens, education, farming and housing.

Five citizens-at-large will also be selected for the committee.

The city’s Seize the Future committee will select 18 members from among the applicants to serve on the Comprehensive Plan Update Advisory Committee. Committee members will be asked to attend 10 or more focus group meetings on various community topics over six months beginning in February.

Committee members will gather information from the community at these meetings and use their findings to help write a comprehensive plan. The committee and focus groups will meet Wednesday evenings in the council chambers. Other focus group meetings will be held at other sites throughout the city, beginning in April or May.

All comprehensive plan meetings will be public, including those of the advisory committee and all focus groups. Agendas, topics and meeting minutes will be posted regularly on the city’s Web site and some meetings will be televised.

The application for the Comprehensive Plan Update Advisory Committee is available at various locations in Ventura City Hall or by visiting the city’s Web site at https://www.ci.ventura.ca.us and clicking on the topic under “Upcoming Events” below the home page photograph.
