Events: 100 meters, long jump

* Carroll placed second in the state championships in the 100 and ran a career-best 11.60 to win the Mt. San Antonio College Relays, move to the top of the yearly state list and to third on the all-time region list. She leaped 18-10 in the long jump and finished sixth in the state final.

* Weatherspoon won her second consecutive City Section title in this event and placed fifth in the state final in 23.97 after setting a school-record of 23.90 in her qualifying heat to move into a tie for seventh on the all-time region list.

Event: 400

* The Washington State-bound Reed won the City title in 55.96 and ran a career best of 54.74 to place fifth in the state final and move to eighth on the all-time region list.

* Del Soldato, who signed with UC Irvine, moved up from the 400 to the 800 in grand fashion. She placed third in the Southern Section Division I final in a school-record 2:12.40, fourth in the Masters Meet and eighth in the state final.

Events: 1,600, 3,200

* The region athlete of the year won the 1,600 and 3,200 in the Southern Section Division I finals and Masters Meet, and won the 3,200 in the state championships and the two-mile in the National Scholastic outdoor championships at North Carolina State. Her bests of 4:49.71 in the 1,600 and 10:18.03 in the two-mile moved her to seventh and third, respectively, on the all-time region list.

Events: 100 high hurdles, 300 low hurdles

* Torrey, who signed with Colorado, won her second consecutive City titles in both events and placed fourth in the lows and fifth in the highs in the state championships. Her 13.99 clocking in the high hurdles moved her to third on the all-time region list and her 42.79 time in the lows tied her for fifth.

BIRMINGHAM

Events: 400, 1,600 relays

* Sisters Gigi and Vincetta Mendola, Shakela Wilson and Vonnie Fulford won City titles in both events and had bests of 47.34 (school record) in the 400 relay and 3:53.22 in the 1,600 relay. The 1,600 time trailed Taft’s 3:52.24 on the yearly region list, but Birmingham had the next six fastest times.

Event: High jump

* Brignac, a transfer from Cleveland, won her third consecutive City title and her first state and Golden West Invitational championships. Brignac cleared a school-record 5-9 to win the state championship and had three meets in which she cleared 5-7 or 5-8.

Event: Pole vault

* A stress fracture in her lower right leg sidelined Astete for several meets during the first half of the season, but she won her third consecutive City title, placed second in the state final and cleared a City and region record of 12-5 1/2 to win the Beach Vault at Leadbetter Beach in Santa Barbara.

Event: Triple jump

* Withers won the Golden League title with a school-record leap of 38-5 to move to seventh on the all-time region list. In addition, she placed sixth in the Southern Section Division I final.

Event: Shotput

* The UCLA-bound Cosby became the first athlete to win four consecutive City titles when she won the shotput in the finals. She followed that with a second-place effort of 49-0 3/4 in the state final that improved her City record of 48-6 1/4 and moved her into second on the all-time region list.

* Larson won her second consecutive Ventura County title and placed third in the Southern Section Division II final and sixth in the Masters Meet. She raised the school record to 135-2.

Events: 100, long jump

* Weatherspoon won her second consecutive City title in the 100 and her first in the long jump. She placed fifth in the state final in the 100 in a school-record 11.77. She leaped a school-record 18-8 in the long jump.

* Carroll struggled in this event at the end of the season, but she was the region’s best during the first six weeks. Her career-best of 24.15 won the Pasadena Games and ranks 11th on the all-time region list.

Event: 400

* The Cal State Fullerton-bound Mendola placed third in the City championships for the second consecutive year, tied Erin Reed of Taft for first in the West Valley League final and ran a career best of 56.90 in her qualifying heat of the state championships.

* Swain’s season was cut short by a leg injury, but she ran a school-record 2:14.24 to win the Pasadena Games and also had a 2:15.31 clocking.

* Stumbough, who signed with Chico State, ran 5:02.77 to place second in the Southern Section Division IV final and was second in the Ventura County championships as well.

* Jakosky won the Southern Section Division II title, the Ventura County championships for the second year in a row and lowered her career best to 10:48.15 in the Division II preliminaries.

* Londono, bound for Long Beach State, placed fourth in the Southern Section Division I final and Masters Meet and ran a school-record 14.60.

Event: 300 low hurdles

* Steward placed second in the City final and ran a school-record 44.65 in her qualifying heat of the state meet.

Event: 400 relay

* The Spartans trailed Birmingham, Taft and Cleveland on the yearly region list, but their foursome of Porchea Carroll, Kristen Hirashima, Kyelynn Chiong and Jaclyn Grentzer finished ahead of Birmingham in a qualifying heat of the state meet and placed eighth in the final.

Event: 1,600 relay

* The Toreadors lost No. 4 runner Danielle Robinson to a leg injury in April, but Deneeka Torrey, Erin Reed, Schquay Brignac and replacement Zoiah Koushki placed fourth in the City final in 4:01.68.

* Wygant, who will attend Yale, struggled to a tie for fifth in the Southern Section Division I final, but tied the school record of 5-7 to place third in the Masters Meet and was ninth in the state final.

* Rivera, who’ll represent El Salvador in the Central American Games next month, placed second in the City final and cleared a career best of 10-8 in the qualifying round of the state championships.

* Larson’s discus exploits overshadowed her efforts in the shotput for most of her career. But she closed the season with several career bests in the shotput, capped by a school-record 42-8 1/2 in the qualifying round of the state championships.
