Titans Win Fourth Consecutive Soccer Game

Duncan Oughton scored both goals as Cal State Fullerton won its fourth consecutive men’s soccer game Sunday, 2-1 over Nevada Las Vegas.

The host Titans (11-4-1, 5-0-1) remained in first place in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

Oughton knocked in a rebound off a shot by Hector Orellan in the 29th minute, and scored on a free kick in the 72nd minute.

UNLV (8-6-1, 2-2) scored in the final minute, only the second goal scored against Fullerton in six conference games.

In another conference game:

UC Irvine 4, CS Northridge 2--Jon Spencer scored two goals for the Anteaters (10-5-1, 3-0-1), who led, 2-0, early in the second half.

Northridge (5-10, 1-4) tied the score with two goals in a one-minute span, but Eric Monterastelli gave Irvine the lead for good with a goal in the 68th minute.

Sebastian Galmanni also scored for Irvine. Tyler Reid had four saves for the Anteaters, who outshot Northridge, 15-9.

In the Northern California water polo tournament:

UC Irvine 6, Pepperdine 5--John Dorfi scored a man-advantage goal at the buzzer to lift the second-ranked Anteaters (13-4) to a fifth-place finish. The No. 8 Waves (9-6) trailed, 5-2, before scoring three consecutive goals to tie the score, 5-5, with 46 seconds remaining.

Dorfi also scored the game-winning goal on a penalty shot in Irvine’s 6-5 overtime victory over No. 3 Long Beach State (12-5) in the consolation semifinal.

UCLA won the tournament with an 11-9 victory over USC.

In nonconference women’s soccer:

San Diego 1, UC Irvine 0--Stephanie Barnier headed in a goal off a pass from Claire Currie in the 15th minute for San Diego (12-5). Goalkeeper Allison Merrick had five saves for Irvine (9-5-2). San Diego outshot the Anteaters, 11-9.
