BOYS’ BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK

A senior-dominated Oxnard team, led by USC-bound center Nicholas Curtis, had its season end Friday with a 68-59 loss to visiting Rialto Eisenhower in a Division I-AAA quarterfinal. But the Yellowjackets should contend for a fourth consecutive Pacific View League title next season.

Juniors Jonathan Davis, Shamir Simmons and Lee Abair will return from this season’s 25-4 squad, as will many of the top players from a junior varsity that was 19-4 and a freshman-sophomore team that was 22-2.

Davis, a 5-11 point guard, averaged a team-leading eight assists a game.

Simmons, a 6-3 forward, was Oxnard’s third-leading scorer, averaging 10.3 points.

Abair, a 6-3 forward, was a key reserve for the Yellowjackets and averaged seven points a game in the playoffs.

Curtis ended his three-year varsity career with school records of 1,216 points and 1,000 rebounds.

He averaged 20 points and 14.7 rebounds this season and 14.5 and 11.9 for his career.

Oxnard was 68-16 during Curtis’ career.

Dustin Villepigue broke two long-standing school records at Simi Valley this season.

The 6-9 senior center made 70.2% of his field-goal attempts to break the previous mark of 67.0% by Don MacLean during the 1987-88 season.

In addition, his career shooting percentage of 66.5 topped MacLean’s 63.0 mark from 1985-88.

Villepigue, who averaged 23 points and 12.7 rebounds this season, has committed to Gonzaga.

Senior Kole Anderson of Westlake set a school record for three-point shooting percentage with a mark of 59.0.

Anderson, who made 49 of 83 three-pointers, broke the previous record of 46.0% by Payam Soliemnzdeh during the 1992-93 season.
