All Fired Up

I just finished reading Eileen Ogintz’s whiny Travel Insider column (“Ship’s No-Tobacco Rule Sends Trip Up in Smoke,” Dec. 24) complaining about Carnival Cruise Lines’ ejection of her family members for violating the “no tobacco products allowed” policy aboard the Paradise. What part of “no” did they not understand when they all signed their cruise contracts? Just because one or two fellow cruisers were also sneaky, with their hidden Cuban cigars, doesn’t make it OK for Ogintz to raise a stink with Carnival over her family’s poor, misunderstood boys.

Stick to your guns, Carnival, because it’s obvious Ogintz thinks that rules just don’t apply to her special family.

What a great article by Eileen Ogintz.

Bob Dickinson, president of Carnival Cruise Lines, you are wrong to throw people off your ship for smoking. I would hate to see what you would do for some other rule someone broke aboard your ship. You should call your ship “SWAT Team Sails” or “Cops at Sea.”

Bravo to Carnival Cruise Lines for enforcing their “zero-tolerance” no-smoking policy. Had Carnival only given a slap on the wrist, they might be asking for hundreds of claims from passengers who paid a premium to be on that nonsmoking ship. I would hope other cruise lines get the message that there is a large and profitable market for exclusively nonsmoking ships.
