World’s Hotels, Spas Get Zagat ‘Treatment’

Share

Zagat Survey, known for its often irreverent reviews of restaurants provided by volunteer diners, is applying its populist approach to world lodgings. Its first-ever “Survey of Top International Hotels, Resorts & Spas,” issued last month, rates more than 850 places from Anguilla to Zimbabwe. (Zagat has rated U.S. hotels since 1987.)

Where else can you savor Paris’ Ritz Hotel being tweaked for its “very Liberace” decor? (Despite that, it was rated Europe’s best hotel.) And be prepared for “huge bills” at the Regent International chain, another reviewer warns. (The consensus: It’s worth it.) The rankings themselves yield few surprises: Hong Kong’s Peninsula is the top hotel, Four Seasons’ Jimbaran Bay in Bali is the best resort and Amanresorts is the top chain. And the populism stops at your pocketbook: A night’s stay at the listed places averages $241.17. Tel. (888) 371-5440, https://www.zagat.com.
