Groundskeeper, Officer Employees of the Year
A public works employee and a police detective have been named Employees of the Year by the Ventura City Council.
Ramiro “Rummy” Betancourt, a groundskeeper for nearly 35 years, and 12-year police veteran Robert MacInnes, a detective in the major crimes unit, were given the honor during a ceremony in the council chambers Thursday.
Betancourt and MacInnes beat out 17 other employees nominated by city department heads. In making their selection, city officials noted that Betancourt was the kind of employee who, even after three decades of service, was the first to arrive at work each morning, while MacInnes carries the respect of his colleagues for his rapport with both crime victims and suspects.
