Suspected Robber Dies of Wounds After Pursuit
A bank robbery suspect shot by police after a freeway chase Thursday died 12 hours later.
William Lee Riley, 45, of Torrance died about 1:25 a.m. at County-USC Medical Center, said coroner’s spokesman Scott Carrier.
Riley reportedly had robbed a gas station in Torrance on Thursday, then fled from police on the Harbor Freeway, throwing cash as he drove, said Officer David Crespin.
Police cruisers forced Riley’s car to spin out near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Officers shot him when he then brandished a gun, Sgt. Gil Kranke said.
