Preschool Where 2 Died Permitted to Reopen
The City Council voted this week to allow the Lighthouse Coastal Community Church to reopen a preschool where two young children were killed two years ago.
In 1999, Steven Allen Abrams intentionally drove his car onto the playground, killing two children and injuring five others. Abrams was convicted of murder in the deaths of Brandon Wiener, 3, and Sierra Soto, 4, and sentenced to life in prison.
The preschool closed last year. In voting Monday to let it reopen, the council also reversed an earlier ban on outdoor activities between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. on church property, imposed after neighbors voiced concerns about traffic and noise.
