Acting’s great, but so is a paycheck
The Actors’ Gang is going on tour.
The Gang will tour “The Guys,” Anne Nelson’s staged reading about the aftermath of Sept. 11, to universities in Mississippi and Georgia and to the Annenberg Center in Philadelphia next spring and to several Midwestern venues next fall.

Actors’ pay -- Actors’ Gang normally pays its actors no more than $15 a performance. An Arts Notes item in Sunday’s Calendar mistakenly said the payments were no more than $15 a week.

Actors’ pay -- Actors’ Gang normally pays its actors no more than $15 a performance. An Arts Notes item in the Dec. 15 Sunday Calendar said the payments were no more than $15 a week.
Part of the motivation is to pay actors a decent wage. Participating Gang actors -- V.J. Foster, Cynthia Ettinger, Brent Hinkley and Kate Mulligan -- will get $500 a week plus expenses, paid for by the presenters. This is in stark contrast with the Gang’s usual productions, which, under Actors’ Equity’s rules, pay each actor no more than $15 a week. The Gang’s current production of “The Guys” pays celebrities $270 a week.
“It has been a longtime goal of the company to do shows where the actors are paid,” said Gang managing director Greg Reiner.
