There’s No Catching Burns in His Victory at Irwindale

Riverside’s Todd Burns continued his dominance of the Southern California Auto Club Late Model series by winning the 50-lap feature Saturday night in front of 5,942 at Irwindale Speedway.

Burns held off Agoura Hills’ Tim Huddleston, who spent the majority of the race trying to catch Burns. Doug McComb finished third. It was Burns’ 24th victory in a feature event.

In the Vista Paint Super Stock series, Andrew Phipps was victorious, holding off Dan Fitzgerald and Greg Crutcher in the 40-lap feature.

Terry Young pulled away from Val Cummings for his first victory in the 40-lap American Race Truck Series event.

Brothers Tom and Ted Landreth finished first and second, respectively, in the 35-lap King Taco Legends Cars Series feature.

Travis Kvapil led 117 of 200 laps in a Chevrolet and held off Terry Cook’s Ford on two restarts over the last 40 laps to win the O’Reilly Auto Parts 200 by .187 seconds Saturday at Memphis Motorsports Park in Millington, Tenn.

It was Kvapil’s second victory of his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series career.

Ted Musgrave was third in a Dodge, followed by polesitter and teammate Jason Leffler.

Dennis Setzer was fifth in a Chevy. Rich Bickle, series points leader David Starr, Coy Gibbs, Rick Crawford and Brian Rose completed the top 10.

Juan Montoya won the pole position for today’s European Grand Prix at Nuerburgring, Germany.

It was the third consecutive pole for the Colombian driver, whose lap time of 1 minute, 29.906 seconds bested BMW-Williams teammate Ralf Schumacher by 0.01 seconds.

Michael Schumacher, seeking his seventh victory in eight events, was third in 1:30.035. He is to start next to Ferrari teammate Rubens Barrichello, who had the fourth-best time.
