Andreychuk Gets to Power Pinnacle

Dave Andreychuk reached another milestone.

Andreychuk scored the 249th power-play goal of his career to tie Phil Esposito’s NHL record, and the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Phoenix Coyotes, 4-2, Monday night at Tampa, Fla.

“Just to be mentioned with [Esposito] is special for me,” Andreychuk said.

Andreychuk redirected a pass from Brad Richards 17 seconds into the second period to give the Lightning a 4-0 lead.

“Obviously, I couldn’t do it by myself,” Andreychuk said. “It was a great pass. It was one of those plays where it was simple for me. I’ve had a few of those over my career on the power play.”

The Tampa Bay captain needs two goals to become the 14th player to reach 600.

“I’d like to do it at home in front of the fans,” Andreychuk said.

Esposito, the former Lightning general manager, is a radio announcer for the team.

“I just think it’s great for David,” Esposito said. “I think it’s terrific. Things like that don’t bother me. When I retired, I was third in the league in scoring all-time. If I can live long enough, I might be 100th. I hope so.”

Boston 6, Edmonton 1 -- Brian Rolston scored two goals at Boston, and the Bruins won for the fourth time in five games.

Edmonton lost for the third time in four games and has given up 18 goals in its last four games.

The Bruins are 9-1-2-1 in their last 13 games.

Chicago 2, Florida 2 -- Jay Bouwmeester scored his first NHL goal midway through the third period to give Florida a tie at Sunrise, Fla.

Jan Hurme made 32 saves for the Panthers, who ended a six-game losing streak against Chicago.

Jocelyn Thibault stopped 30 shots for the Blackhawks, including two in overtime.

Atlanta 2, Calgary 1 -- Pasi Nurminen stopped 31 shots at Atlanta and the Thrashers extended the Flames’ franchise-record scoring drought.

Nurminen’s bid for his first career shutout ended when Chris Clark scored with 4:48 left.

The Flames had gone 192 minutes 42 seconds without a goal over four games, which topped their 171:01 span last season.

New York Rangers 5, San Jose 4 -- Rem Murray had two goals and an assist at San Jose, and the Rangers won for the third time in four games.

Dan Blackburn made 33 saves in his third consecutive start for the Rangers, who were outshot, 17-5, in the third period but managed to hang on.

Ranger forward Krzysztof Oliwa was suspended for five games and Coach Bryan Trottier for two by the league for their roles in a fight at the end of a game against Columbus.

The league also fined Ranger forward Sandy McCarthy $1,000, and the team was fined $25,000.

Oliwa was suspended for cross-checking Grant Marshall at the end of the Rangers’ 6-3 loss to Columbus on Saturday night. He will lose more than $24,000 in salary.

Trottier was suspended for sending several enforcers on the ice for the final 2.5 seconds and the game’s outcome no longer in doubt. He started serving the suspension Monday.
