From Staff Reports

Crenshaw tight end Chris Porter fumbled away a scoring opportunity in the first half but he did no such thing with the game and the Coliseum League title on the line Friday night.

Porter caught a five-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Andrew Simpson with 45 seconds left to give the Cougars a come-from-behind, 19-18 victory over Dorsey at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Kevin Menjivar’s only successful extra-point try enabled Crenshaw to end its league season undefeated at 5-0. The Cougars, 7-3 overall, may be in line for the No. 2 or No. 3 overall seeding at today’s City Section playoff pairings meeting.

Dorsey (4-6, 3-2) took an 18-12 lead with 3:40 remaining when Donald Prince completed a pass to Jerome Johnson and the big tight end shook off two tacklers to score on a 70-yard reception.

Crenshaw, which rallied from a 12-0 halftime deficit, put together a game-winning, 54-yard drive by handing the ball off to running Dary Adway for five of the first six plays. Adway, who had 110 yards in 18 carries, gained 41 yards and picked up two first downs.

With the Dons focused on the run, Porter got loose in the end zone and Simpson found him.

Crenshaw scored two quick touchdowns in the third quarter to tie the score.

Mebane, who comes in at fullback on short-yardage plays, scored from one yard out and Adway added a nine-yard touchdown run to take advantage of a Dorsey fumble. But Menjivar missed both point after tries to leave the score tied at 12-12 entering the fourth quarter.
