Hurricanes Earn Tie With Flyers, 1-1

Jesse Boulerice scored his first NHL goal and point against his former team as the Carolina Hurricanes tied the Philadelphia Flyers, 1-1, Friday night at Raleigh, N.C.

The Flyers ended Carolina’s three-game winning streak. Still, the Hurricanes improved to 4-0-2-1 seven games into their nine-game homestand and have points in 11 of 12 games.

The overtime loss at the RBC Center was 2-1 to the Flyers 10 days ago. Since then, Philadelphia is 0-2-2.

Paul Ranheim hit the crossbar with 14:15 left as the Flyers pressed for the go-ahead goal early in the third but couldn’t cash in against Kevin Weekes, who has given up only 15 goals in his last nine starts.

Jeremy Roenick scored Philadelphia’s only goal on its first shot, but the Flyers were 0 for 3 on the power play and have gone scoreless in 22 consecutive chances.

Toronto 3, Buffalo 2 -- Alexander Mogilny scored goals 2:13 apart at Buffalo, N.Y., as the Maple Leafs extended the Sabres’ winless streak to 10 games.

Mikael Renberg also scored, and Ed Belfour stopped 35 shots for Toronto, which scored three second-period goals in less than three minutes to overcome a 1-0 deficit.

Phoenix 5, Atlanta 1 -- Tony Amonte had a goal and an assist at Atlanta as the Coyotes used two quick strikes to end a three-game losing streak.

Amonte and Mike Johnson scored 50 seconds apart early in the second, and Landon Wilson and Daniel Briere had goals in a 32-second span late in the period.

Dallas 4, Colorado 2 -- Mike Modano earned his 1,000th career point, and Niko Kapanen scored a shorthanded goal with 3:29 left, carrying the Stars to victory at Dallas.

Colorado goalie Patrick Roy became the NHL career leader in minutes played, but he couldn’t prevent the Avalanche from losing in regulation on the road for the first time this season. Roy broke the mark held by Terry Sawchuk.

Washington 2, Chicago 2 -- Chris Simon’s power-play goal with 1:26 left in the third period lifted the Blackhawks into a tie at Chicago.

Phil Housley also scored for the Blackhawks, who outshot the Capitals, 38-16. Jocelyn Thibault made 14 saves as the Blackhawks extended their unbeaten streak to five games (3-0-2).

New Jersey 5, Montreal 1 -- Jamie Langenbrunner scored two goals for the second straight game to lead the Devils at East Rutherford, N.J.

Brian Gionta, Sergei Brylin and Patrik Elias also scored for the Devils, and Martin Brodeur made 20 saves to improve his record to 10-4.

Tampa Bay 4, San Jose 2 -- Dave Andreychuk set an NHL record by scoring his 250th career power-play goal as the Lightning won at Tampa, Fla.

Andreychuk was tied for the record with Phil Esposito, a radio broadcaster for the Lightning.

Edmonton 5, St. Louis 0 -- Anson Carter and Marty Reasoner each scored twice and Tommy Salo made 29 saves for his first shutout of the season as the Oilers won at Edmonton, Canada.

Mike Comrie had a goal and two assists, and Ryan Smyth had three assists for the Oilers, who played their first game at home after a 3-3 road trip.
