Ohio Player Breaks Career Passing Mark

Ben Mauk of Kenton High threw for 469 yards Friday night to break the national high school career passing yardage record.

Mauk needed 215 yards to break the record, and he threw for 293 yards in the first half. He completed 24 of 37 passes for four touchdowns and ran for a score as Kenton (7-2) beat Ottawa-Glandorf, 33-32.

His career total of 14,712 yards broke the mark of 14,457 yards, which was set from 1995-98 by J.R. House of Nitro, W.Va.

Mauk has thrown for 3,718 yards and 42 touchdowns this season. He set a national single-season record of 5,770 yards passing last year -- breaking House’s 1998 mark of 5,526 -- and threw a state-record 60 touchdown passes.

He has committed to Wake Forest.
