Group’s Report Card on Infrastructure Is Suspect

Share

Re “Infrastructure Graded, Warnings Sounded,” Oct. 11:

So an organization that is in the business of advising those who would contract to repair infrastructure discovers that Orange County needs repair. And their case studies for the schools are one high school and one district out of 28 districts in the county. And the “research” done on these two was based on a visit to reports posted on their Web sites.

Both the Huntington Beach Union High School District and Foothill High School in Santa Ana have spent several years describing themselves in the worst possible terms in order to get voters to support them in bond elections -- to repair the schools.

Surprise, those descriptions are horrific.

The real news here is that no one has gone to the trouble to investigate those districts that have not held bond elections. Are there districts where deferred maintenance is not the rule and where buildings are maintained and repaired in a timely fashion? Are there districts where you cannot take photos of crumbling ceilings, broken plumbing, rotted floors and termite-infested walls?
