We Should All Get Whatever We Want
Re “Home of Surfing More Than Surfers,” Aug. 18:
I couldn’t agree more with the sentiments expressed by the many surfers mentioned in the article. I grew up sailing, first on the East Coast and then for the last 35 years in Southern California. It is an outrage that I cannot afford to live in a house with a dock directly on Newport Harbor to facilitate my passion.
My wife, an avid golfer since her mid-teens, would like to express her disgust with the greedy developers who have made Pelican Hill Golf Course homes too expensive for us to afford. A golf course home would greatly assist her with her chosen endeavor.
Our daughter is grown now, but as a tyke she often created beautiful sandcastles on the beach. Her future as a master builder/architect was unkindly cut short because the uncaring beachfront property owners were not willing to sell their houses for less than market value in order to ease her access to the sand.
Perhaps we could get together with all the displaced surfers and initiate a class action lawsuit to get what should rightfully be ours.
