Lawmakers, Unions Push for FCC Hearings
Five House members and 12 unions representing media industry workers urged Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael K. Powell to hold public hearings on changes that should be made in FCC media-ownership rules.
A U.S. appeals court in Philadelphia last month ordered the FCC to review its new rules that let companies such as News Corp. and Viacom Inc. buy more television stations and newspapers.
The lawmakers said they would circulate a letter in Congress urging Powell to hold hearings.
The representatives were joined by unions including the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
