Comets Get Left Out
For the first time in franchise history, the Houston Comets will not be part of the WNBA playoffs.
Tangela Smith had 17 points for the Sacramento Monarchs, who eliminated the Comets with a 71-62 victory Thursday night at Houston.
The Comets had been to the playoffs every season since the inception of the WNBA in 1997, and won the first four championships.
Sacramento moved into a tie with Phoenix for the final Western Conference playoff spot.
New York 77, Indiana 71 -- Becky Hammon scored a season-high 28 points in an overtime victory at New York to help the Liberty pull into a tie with Charlotte and Washington for second place in the Eastern Conference.
