Schools may need more than city supervision

Share

Re “The education mayor,” editorial, Dec. 13

So the mayor wants to take over the schools. The folks at Rand Corp. think that the positives of such a move would outweigh the negatives. Then, by all means, let him at it. Just a minute though. Does that mean he would supplant the elected school board, in effect becoming school czar? Or would the schools become another city department? Wait, now, wouldn’t that mean the City Council would have a say?

And what about the surmise that other city services could be deployed to help the schools? Does that mean that services to other parts of the city would suffer? Hmm? Is this really such a good idea?
