Update -- Since taking over for rookie goalkeeper Brad Guzan, Sergio Garcia has given up five goals and Chivas has been outscored by a combined 6-0 in its last two matches. Garcia has been slowed this week because of a left hip injury. The last-place expansion club was eliminated from the Major League Soccer playoff chase with last week’s 3-0 defeat at first-place San Jose. In fact, Chivas is on a 211-minute scoreless streak. The Earthquakes are on an eight-game unbeaten streak dating to July 20, going 7-0-1, and have 50 points. San Jose, 11-1-4 in its last 16 matches, has given up a league-low 26 goals. Chivas has given up a league-high 59. A Mexican league match between Chivas de Guadalajara and Necaxa will be shown on the stadium’s big screen at 5. Chivas USA will be without injured midfielder Francisco Gomez (left quad strain) and forward Thiago Martins (sprained right knee).
