Rescuers Unable to Find Missing Diver
Rescue crews from several agencies searched an area near the Los Angeles Harbor without success Wednesday for a diver who failed to surface with three others.
The U.S. Coast Guard said it received a call at 1:13 p.m. from the Salty V, about 3 1/2 miles outside the breakwater near the south end of the Los Angeles Channel, which leads into Los Angeles Harbor. That location is near a shipwreck frequented by recreational divers, Coast Guard spokesman Lt. P.J. Jacquelin said. The group had dived to depths of about 60 feet.
The Coast Guard sent a helicopter, and several other agencies, including the Los Angeles County and city fire departments, patrolled with boats and divers. But by late Wednesday afternoon no sign of the diver had been found.
